Questions to Ask A Personal Injury Lawyer

Many lawyers offer free consultations. By having a list of questions prepared in advance, you’ll be able to get the most out of your free consultation. It can be hard to know which questions to ask a personal injury lawyer.

When you have a problem, you look for a specialist. The best specialists often know more about your problem than you do. That’s called ‘information asymmetry,’ and it’s one of the biggest challenges in determining which lawyer could best represent your case.

One of the things that we’ve noticed is that some clients come to us with a list of questions to ask a personal injury lawyer. The best outcomes are often the ones with clients who are involved in their own case.  That’s not to say your attorney needs you to micromanage–just to pay attention. Collecting informations and asking questions is one of the best ways you can get involved.

A few weeks back, we put together a guide: Questions to Ask Personal Injury Lawyer. We recommend asking any prospective attorney you meet with about their caseload. From that article:

“There are firms that make their money by working cases in bulk. This means that they would quite a few cases at once. It can also mean your case is primarily worked by support staff. Having support staff in general is a good thing, but ask your attorney if they will be working your case themselves.”

Knowing the weight of a attorney’s caseload can help you determine exactly how much ‘lawyer time’ your case is going to receive.

Each case is unique and you probably know better than anyone what outcome you’re looking for. Take a moment and think about that outcome. Take a piece of paper and write down a few of the things you know that you want.

After you’ve built a list, you can begin to look for articles about your specific situation. A few hours of research online should be more than enough to familiarize yourself with the experiences of other people who have been in your situation. Keep a list of the questions that you have, and bring those questions to an attorney. Those are the best questions to ask a personal injury lawyer.
